Florence and the Machine
finally release their eagerly anticipated album Lungs next week, and Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up) precedes it as a single. It seems rather lazy to call Florence the new Kate Bush, although there are a lot of Bushian qualities about her music and videos (flowy, diaphanous dress - check, tousled hair - check, slightly shrill vocals - check, strange dancing - check) but Florence is her own woman, and her music sounds contemporary in a way that Kate Bush can never quite manage. Such a comparison can only be good news though - we have long needed a Kate Bush figure in pop, now that Tori Amos has grown up and toned it down a little. Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up) is a smart choice for a first single, for despite all its artistic leanings it still has a killer chorus that should guarantee a hit. Also love the Lady of Shalott references in the video too (reminding me just a little bit of Anne of Green Gables, in a good way though). Enjoy.
this rabbit heart vid is better:
